Fourteen ferrets go missing from Medway animal rescue centre

Fourteen ferrets have gone missing from an animal rescue centre after a burglary.

The animals were apparently taken from their hutches at the Medway Ferret Rescue Centre, in Town Road, Cliffe Woods, on Thursday, at about 1pm.

Pam Sirett, who runs the centre and often takes in abandoned and sick ferrets, is appealing for their safe return.

She said:“I went to feed them at about 1pm and as I reached the hutches I realise they were all wide open.

“I looked around for the animals, but couldn’t find them.

“I later discovered just one female, Sybil, cowering in the garage. She’s the only one I’ve got left and is bit lonely now.

Special care

“I’m really worried about the ferrets and just want them back.

“Two of them need special care and one needs medical treatment. Another has no teeth, so I have to cut her food up into small pieces – I’m worried she won’t get enough food.”

The ferrets’ hutches were at the rear of the centre.

Pam added: “I would appeal to anyone who may know anything about their whereabouts to call me.

“I just want them returned.”

A Medway police spokesman said the burglary was being investigated.
