Boxing promoter Frank Maloney hailed Friday night’s show at Medway Park a success outside of the ring after a bad day inside it for the Kent fighters.

Defeats for Kent light middleweight boxers Sam Webb and Martin Welsh as well as a disappointing showing from hometown heavyweight Tom Dallas means a repeat show may, however, be a long time coming.

Maloney brought the Sky Sports’ live boxing roadshow to the Gillingham leisure centre for Webb’s British title fight but he lost to Manchester’s Prince Arron.

Dallas offered the main support for the evening but a laboured performance left the watching public underwhelmed.

Maloney, who promotes a number of fighters including Dallas, said: "The show was a great success but unfortunately results didn’t go the way we wanted them to.

"Unfortunately, Dallas didn’t look as good as we wanted and now it may be a while before we can come back with a show like that. We will have to go away with these boxers and regroup."

Around 1,200 fight fans watched the 10-bout show at Medway Park with the main event between Swanley-based Webb and Arron producing compulsive viewing.

"That was a great fight," said Maloney (pictured left). "If that was two big name boxers fighting then it would have been hailed a classic."

Webb, making his second defence of the British title, perforated an ear drum in a fifth-round knockdown and despite a brave display was eventually beaten when Allhallows referee Richard Davies stopped the fight in the 12th and final round.

That fight followed Dallas’ points win over Ohio’s Zack Page.

Chatham’s Dallas was awarded the win 78-76 on Gillingham referee Ian John-Lewis’ scorecard, prompting Maloney to admit the win was a "lucky" one.

Maloney said: "It was a bad day at the office and he didn’t shine but you can’t expect great performances every time.

"The most important thing is that he learns from it."
