Are you a teacher, student or parent who would like free reflective discs for your school this winter?
After the outstanding success of last year's Be Bright Be Seen campaign, we are once again teaming up with Kent County Council Road Safety to help children be bright and be seen this winter.
For the last few years we have kitted out thousands and thousands of Kent children with a free reflective disc to help them be seen in poor light.
Despite the challenges of last year we continued the campaign and with children and families spending more time outside than ever before it was once again a huge success and thousands of reflective discs were snapped up by classes, teachers and after-school clubs.
The keyrings can be clipped to clothing, school bags or sports kits and even to bikes and scooters.
They are designed to help children be seen more easily on the county's streets once they have left the safety of their school gates or after-school activity and we want to make sure the same happens again this year.
With the clocks changing on Sunday, October 31, it will be more important than ever that children are extremely visible when they return to school and extra activities after the half-term break.
If you're a motorist you'll know how difficult it can sometimes be to see pedestrians and cyclists during the dark mornings and evenings or when visibility is poor. And because school uniforms are often dark – it's important to make sure that children's outer garments have fluorescent or reflective elements.
Your child may be learning the road safety message ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ at school, and it’s important that as adults we appreciate the increased risk the change in seasons can bring and do all we can to make sure our families are visible – this includes ourselves!
David Williams from Kent County Council's Road Safety Team explains that decisions about what we, and our children, wear in winter can potentially be life saving.
He said: “As the mornings and evenings get darker, the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists is always a concern at this time of year.
"Whilst drivers must take extra care to look out for vulnerable road users, it is important that we make sure ourselves and our children are as visible as possible to vehicles.
" Bright clothing and reflective accessories such as these reflective keyrings will help improve your visibility.
"This campaign perfectly illustrates how something as simple as making a decision on what clothing you wear could potentially save your life.”
