Bruce Inkango made a promising showing on his debut for Gillingham on Saturday and boss Andy Hessenthaler insists there is much more to come.
Inkango, pictured, played the final 17 minutes against Burton at Priestfield and Hessenthaler believes that the only thing holding the French winger back is nerves.
"He can only get better," said Hessenthaler.
"The kid was nervous and you could tell. He was delighted that we got his international clearance on Friday but he didn’t know until he came in for the game. He didn’t know he was going to be involved and when we told him he was really excited.
"I could see he was nervous, even though he put Darren Moore (Burton defender) on his backside with a great bit of skill.
"We want him to get at defenders. He wants to pass but we don’t want him to pass in the final third.
"He can get people off their seats and he did that for the spell he was on but there is more to come from the kid. I’m pleased for him."
Inkango’s inclusion meant there was no room on the bench for Stanley Aborah.
The Gills were over-loaded with attacking options on the bench and a poor midweek showing in the reserves didn’t help the Belgian midfielder’s chances.
"Looking at some of the players in the reserves, they didn’t give me enough," said Hessenthaler.
