Ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month Volkswagen has confirmed details of its diesel hot hatch, the Golf GTD.
Using a 2.0-litre common rail diesel engine producing 182bhp and 280lb.ft of torque, the Golf GTD is capable of an impressive 142mph and 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds. Yet when driven more sedately it can manage 67.3mpg combined and emit as little as 109g/km.
The Golf GTD is distinguished by its smoked LED rear lights, chrome exhaust pipes, 17-inch alloy wheels, side skirts, a rear diffuser, sports suspension and a large roof spoiler.
On the inside the GTD gains tartan sports seats, a black rooflining, sports steering wheel and stainless steel pedals as well as a GTD-specific gear lever, trim strips and instrument cluster.
UK sales are expected to start in April, with deliveries in the summer although the final specification and prices are to be confirmed.
