AROUND 30 jobs will be created if plans for a furniture store in Medway go ahead.

Furniture Village has asked for planning permission to open in premises next to the B&Q superstore in Will Adams Way, Gillingham.

Members of Medway Council’s development control committee are due to make their decision at a meeting on Wednesday.

Furniture Village said it is investing around £3 million bring the store to Gillingham.

The application seeks consent to sub-divide existing floorspace, which is currently unused, to make way for the new store.

David Childs from B& Q,said: “It is good news all round that Furniture Village has agreed to come to Medway.

“We know that Maidstone has been attempting to attract them but thanks to our working relationships elsewhere, we have persuaded them to bring their excellent offer to the Towns.”

David Vowels, Furniture Village’s director of property, added: “We wanted to present in northern Kent and are aware of a need not currently being served in either Medway or Maidstone.

“We trade successfully alongside major B&Q stores elsewhere in the country and this has demonstrated value in co-locating stores.

“Also, the encouragement we have received from local stakeholders, led us to make the decision to come to Medway.”
