Game birds killed in gas fire

A faulty gas heater is being blamed for the death of about 50 pheasant chicks.

The birds, which were being reared in pens off Cranbrook Road, Frittenden, perished when their straw and paper bedding caught fire at about 6am today (Wed July 3).

Firefighters from Cranbrook and Tenterden put out the blaze which also injured many birds.
