Long-serving Kent wicketkeeper Geraint Jones has reiterated his desire to see out his career at St Lawrence but has revealed he has still yet to finalise his future.

While Jones, who is in the final year of his contract at Kent, is hopeful a new deal can be struck with the club, the 35-year-old says contract talks have not really progressed since the end of last season.

Now in his 12th season with Kent, the former England wicketkeeper insists he wants to be a one-club man and sign a final contract with the county to see him to the end of his playing career.

He said: "I’m hoping soon I will get a chance to sit down with (chief executive) Jamie Clifford and sort things out and see where I stand.

"I want to play for Kent until the end. Hopefully the powers that be have similar thoughts.

"I want to put pen to paper. I don’t want to go anywhere else and would love for Kent to be the only county I played for.

"I have been waiting to sit down and talk since the end of last season and it’s taken until now to get close to that decision, but I guess there have been other things going on in terms of a new coach but every player wants to know about their future as early as they can."

Skipper Rob Key remains a doubt with an ankle injury for Sunday’s opening Clydesdale Bank 40 game of the season against Yorkshire at Headingley, and Jones is likely to step in and lead the side should he not be available.
