Rocker Suzi Quatro and her band aim to get the crowd reeling and rocking at the 1970s extravaganza at Quex Park in Birchington this summer.
She will be joined on the bill on Saturday, July 19, by glam rockers The Glitter Band, former members of T Rex, and special guests, with broadcasters Dermot O’Leary and Kaddy Lee-Preston hosting the show.
Organised by Westgate and Birchington Rotary Club, the event will raise funds for the cancer care appeal at the QEQM hospital and for other local charities.
Suzi’s hits include 48 Crash, I’ve Never Been In Love Before, Can The Can and The Race Is On.
In the 1980s and 1990s she started working on other projects including an acting career. She appeared in an episode of Minder and played Annie in the UK revival of Annie Get Your Gun in the late 1980s. She also wrote a musical with Willie Rushton. She continues to perform high-energy shows and also work as a radio presenter.
The spirit of T Rex founders Marc Bolan and Mickey Finn is kept alive by drummer Paul Fenton who played with the band in the 1970s, Saxon founder and guitarist Graham Oliver, keyboard player Dave Major and bassist Tony Allday.
They faithfully recreate the glam rock sounds of the original and have won acclaim touring in the UK and Europe.
The Glitter Band sparkled behind the leader Gary in the early 1970s and stepped out on their own platform boots with hits including Angel Face. Original members John Rossall and Harvey Ellison keep up the tradition of the band’s thumping rhythms.
The event runs from 2pm to 11pm, and also features a funfair, on-site pubs, picnic space, memorial balloon-release and a firework finale at approximately 11pm.
Tickets are £25 each and available at the Winter Gardens box office, Margate, phone 01843 296111. Children under 12 go free, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
