A number of trialists are still hoping for a place in Gillingham's League 2 squad but assistant manager Ian Hendon admits they will need to do something special now at this late stage.
Hendon said: "We are having a look and if anything does stand out and hit us in the face then we may do something, but we’ve pretty much got a big enough and a good enough squad to compete in this division and I’m sure the manager feels the same way."
The Gills were keen to have a look at French striker Gomez Dali on Tuesday at Concord Rangers but his hopes of impressing were curtailed by injury.
He had previously earned rave reviews at Woking, where he scored a second half hat-trick in a 7-0 drubbing of Winchester. He picked up a training ground injury and pulled up in the warm-up at Concord before having chance to kick a ball.
Hendon said: "He got a little knock in training but said he was fine and then did a warm up but could take no part. That was a bit disappointing.
"We have heard a few things about him and we wanted to look at him but it wasn’t the case. It’s one we’ve missed out on by the look of it."
Dali follows the same path as highly-rated Stanley Aborah (pictured) whose earlier injury also looks like ending his chances of winning a deal at Gills. Aborah was still training with the Gills this week.
Another player running out of time to impress is former England youth player Moses Barnett who started in the youth team at Arsenal before moving on to Everton. He got his chance in the league with a brief spell at Darlington.
"He wasn’t fit enough when he first came in but he’s been away and we have a look at these players," said Hendon.
"You never know, you might get a gem in there somewhere. We take a punt and we have a look."
The Gills face Croydon Athletic for their penultimate pre-season test at Sittingbourne’ on Saturday and travel to Faversham on Tuesday, where the trialists could be on show once more.
