Gillingham made it two wins from two on Saturday but Andy Hessenthaler is not getting overly excited.

The Gills manager (pictured, alongside coach Nicky Southall) knows anything can happen in their next 44 League 2 meetings and will be keeping the players’ feet on the floor.

“I was pleased but we won’t get carried away,” he said after Saturday’s 2-1 win at Crewe.

“We’ve won two games and we’ll look forward to recovering over the next couple of days and look forward to Barnet (on Tuesday).

“We’ve got a real good bunch of characters here in the dressing room.

“I think there is a real togetherness and a real desire to grind results out. You have to go to places like Crewe and do that.

“We have to maintain it, what we are doing, and if we do we will have a very good season.”

One player particularly impressing Hessenthaler is keeper Ross Flitney, who made some great saves to keep the points in the bag at Crewe.

Hessenthaler said: “He made an outstanding save in the second half and his kicking and his all round game was tremendous. I am delighted with him.”
