Gillingham boss Mark Stimson is backing 14-goal Simeon Jackson to help them avoid relegation.

Stimson is not expecting any offers for Jackson, pictured, before the transfer window closes at 5pm on Monday.

Jackson has been touted as a target for many clubs but Stimson believes his prize asset will be staying.

"I don’t think anyone will come in for him now and that would be great for us," said Stimson.

"I think he will get 10 goals now before the end of the season. Once it (the transfer window) is shut and gone we can move on.

"When it’s gone, fingers crossed he’ll be here and we can move forward. His aim has to be 20 goals this year because for him anything less would mean a poor season."

With just one goal from his last eight games, Stimson also feels a lack of form will have put off many potential suitors.

"I don’t think the little man will go," said Stimson. "He has done really well this season but of late it’s been hard for him. In the summer there might be five or six clubs wanting to take him if he scores 20 goals at this level."

Stimson is still targeting an extra striker, despite losing out on Scott Vernon.

"One door shuts and another opens," he said. "I will try and do something on Monday regarding a striker until the end of the season."
