Tom Wynter made his debut for Gillingham on Saturday against Brentford as manager Mark Stimson reorganised his side following Josh Gowling’s sending-off.

Wynter, 19, pictured, was recently recalled from a loan spell at Blue Square South side Dover as defensive back-up and Stimson was impressed by the teenager’s contribution in the second half.

He said: "It was a tricky one for him because at the time we only had 10 and they had 11. He went out there and gave his all and that’s what Tom does.

"He will probably be the first to admit that he spent too much time on the ball and that’s a side of the game he can work on.

"Defensively he was sound and it was good for him to get on and make his debut."

Wynter will be back on the bench at Exeter on Monday as Matt Fry returns from suspension.
