Chris Dickson's loan spell with Gillingham ended at the weekend and boss Mark Stimson admitted he was unlikely to pursue the striker this summer.
The Charlton forward was once at the top of Stimson’s hit list following a previous loan spell which saw him top the club’s goal charts with 11 goals from 11 starts.
Stimson worked hard on getting Dickson back at the Gills, signing him on a 93-day loan deal in January and talking up a permanent summer move, but his impact this time around was far from convincing – scoring once in eight games and spending much of the time on the bench.
Stimson said: "He didn’t play as many minutes as he or I would have liked but you are judged on your last game.
"He has a lovely way about him, he has a great smile, but he just needs to be a little more professional in his game. If he does that he will maintain and play a decent level but if he doesn’t then who knows where he will end up?
But for Stimson he won’t be making an offer of a return to Gillingham.
"I’m sure he will get a club," said Stimson. "We will be looking elsewhere."
