Martin Allen hopes his latest backroom addition will help make player recruitment easier now and in the future.

Mike Robbins has been brought in as head of player recruitment to further assist Gills boss Allen in his search for new players.

Allen said: "This job is only, at the moment, a temporary position and we will see how he goes through to the end of the season. He has been here for a couple of weeks and will work for another six weeks, helping me to recruit for next season."

One of Robbins’ key roles will be to build a database of players the club’s manager can access at the touch of a button.

Allen said: "It is essential to have that database. Database is a big old word but all that is, is a file of right-backs, left-backs, centre-backs, goalkeepers, midfielders, wingers and forwards.

"You can put sheets of paper into a big folder but I want it onto disc so it should then be within the club for the future. So whatever happens to me in the future, Gillingham Football Club will have a proper database."
