Martin Allen was back in his office at 7.30am on Monday morning planning Gillingham’s attack on League 1 - three days after the club clinched promotion.
The Gills boss has no interest in consolidating their position at a higher level next season and he’s already targeting the players needed for his team to challenge for honours again.
Allen (pictured) said: "Some people have said we will consolidate but I don’t know what that means.
"I want to challenge and that’s why I am either at the top or the bottom, I have never been middle, I never manage in the middle. We have to be near the top and challenge.
"This year I thought we would be between third and fourth when I arrived and chatted with Mr Scally and then after the few pre-season games, I just knew we would get promoted, it was obvious. It was quite clear.
"Now after working with them for nine or 10 months with the people around me, helping me and supporting me, if I get my work right over the next couple of months and we recruit properly –recruitment is going to be key – then we will be set up.
"What a great feeling this has been, I want to do it again! Let’s not mess about.
"I don’t think anyone who knows me could ever believe that I just want to go up and consolidate. It would be easy to play 4-5-1 and just stay in the division, oh my God, how boring is that?"
