Manager Martin Allen insists his Gillingham team will be going into this weekend’s FA Cup match as the underdogs.

Scunthorpe are the visitors on Saturday and facing a fight against relegation in League 1, while the Gills are top of League 2.

Despite the contrasting fortunes, Allen (pictured) believes that Scunthorpe’s higher division status means they will be favourites to succeed in the first round clash.

Allen said: "They are in the division above, they are all League 1 players and our players are League 2. So they are better than us.

"I can’t wait for it. They are a League 1 club coming down here and we are underdogs. There is no doubt about it. It will be an exciting afternoon because our players will be flying come that game.

"Every one of them to a man, on and off the field, they will be gagging for a victory."

The Gills will assess the fitness of striker Deon Burton (knee), who missed last week’s 1-0 win at AFC Wimbledon. On-loan trio Romain Vincelot, Tom Flanagan and Tommy Forecast have all been made available for selection by their parent clubs.
