Adam Barrett will be hoping to make it third time lucky at Priestfield on Saturday in the FA Cup against Scunthorpe.
In his two previous FA Cup outings, with Bournemouth and Southend, he has tasted defeat against Gillingham.
But the Gills captain is now hoping he’ll be representing the winning team this weekend. He said: "Now I am here hopefully we can continue that trend wearing the right shirt.
"It’s a nice break from the league but we want to continue the good run we are on and get through to the next round. We are at home, the fans have been tremendous and we are looking forward to going out and causing an upset."
Last season, central defender Barrett (pictured) was playing for League 1 Bournemouth as the Gills caused an upset. The first tie ended 3-3 and the replay at Priestfield saw a 3-2 win for the hosts.
Those games were the first time he had been in FA Cup action since a 2009 exit against the Gills while he was with Southend. The Gills won that game 3-0.
Scunthorpe arrive at Priestfield without a win in seven games but they replaced their manager in the week and Barrett knows that will give them a lift.
"That’s a massive boost for the club," he said. "It is always a difficult time to play someone who has just changed their manager. The players are fighting to impress and it will give the club a whole new lease of life. It is going to be a difficult game."
