Gillingham chairman Paul Scally has revealed that Barry Fuller and Curtis Weston could both stay at the club next season.
Fuller’s contract is due to expire this summer but, after missing a large chunk of last season through injury, he could remain at Priestfield.
The former Gills captain has been offered a new deal but, by Thursday (yesterday) morning, the club had still not heard back from his agent – just a week before pre-season training resumes.
Mr Scally said: "He has been offered a new contract and I was expecting to hear back from him or his agent last week. They told me I would hear back on Monday. I still haven’t heard and so I am assuming he won’t be signing for us."
But Fuller (pictured top) has given a clear indication that he will stay at Gills by tweeting this week: "So looking forward to going back to football next week. Will be good to see all the boys and can’t wait for 12/13 season to get under way."
In response, Mr Scally said: "Maybe he will (sign) but I haven’t heard officially from his agent and so I am still waiting to hear."
Fuller missed the majority of last season after undergoing major surgery to repair a cruciate knee ligament. His last game for the Gills was at Hereford on September 17 and he played a total of 151 games for the club.
Mr Scally also revealed that Weston’s time at Priestfield may not be over, despite the club including his name on the list of released players back in May.
"Curtis Weston (pictured) still wants to come back and we may like to bring him back but that’s a decision for the new manager," said Mr Scally.
