Gillingham chairman Paul Scally is delighted to have Nicky Southall back at the club.

Southall, 38, joins as the club’s first team player-coach and will work alongside manager Andy Hessenthaler and assistant Ian Hendon.

It will be the player’s fourth spell at the club.

Mr Scally (pictured) said: “He never wanted to leave the club in the first place and he cares very much about the club.

“He’s got an A-licence, he’s got a lot of energy, he’ll be used to go the length and breadth of the country looking at teams and games and players and Hess knows he can trust him.”
