Outgoing manager Mark Stimson was set to receive a compensation offer from Gillingham chairman Paul Scally this week.

Stimson, along with assistant manager Scott Barrett, had another year to run on their contracts and have remained tight-lipped on their departure while negotiations over a pay-off take place.

The pair had been at the helm since November 2007 but relegation back into League 2 saw them depart through "mutual agreement".

Mr Scally said: "I don’t suspect that we will agree a package quickly but we will see what happens."

Stimson’s departure means Mr Scally is left looking for his eighth permanent manager.

"It’s something I could have done without," he added.

"I’m disappointed with the way it’s turned out with Mark and Scott and I’ve taken it quite personally this time.

"I’m disappointed with some of the things since he’s left but that’s another issue for another day. We need to move on now."
