Gillingham are among a number of teams chasing Barnet’s highly-rated striker John O’Flynn.

The 27-year-old Irishman played under Gills’ new assistant manager Ian Hendon last season at Barnet and topped the club’s scoring charts with 15 goals.

He becomes a free agent at the end of this month and the Gills have already expressed their interest to the player, who has hit 34 goals in 77 games at Underhill.

Hendon (pictured) said: "His record speaks for itself in this division. He’s a good striker and a good finisher and would be a great addition. He’s on a free transfer and available."

The striker spent the last two seasons with Barnet having signed from Irish outfit Cork City.

O’Flynn has been offered new terms by Barnet, who are managed by former Gills boss Mark Stimson, while Lincoln are also understood to be keeping tabs on him.

Hendon knows they could all face a tough time tempting him to an extended stay in League 2.

Hendon said: "John turned down a deal at Shrewsbury on transfer deadline day because he wanted to play in the league above.

"It might still be his aspiration to play at a higher level but you never say never. I have spoken to him and I keep in touch with a few old players from Barnet. He’s a good lad, a friend and a good player. I’ve asked the question."
