Rookie keeper Paolo Gazzaniga could be a Gillingham player before the weekend.

The 19-year-old, who was with Valencia’s youth team in Spain last season, played the first 45 minutes at Welling on Tuesday and did not look out of place.

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler (pictured) now fears he could lose him to other interested parties.

He said: "I have to be careful that other teams are not watching him.

"If we are going to do something then we might have to do it quickly.

"I like his kicking, he had a couple of things to deal with. The boys like him, he doesn’t speak good English but he is an interesting one.

"Whether he is ready or not, I don’t know? We might bring him in and then send him out on loan. Every game Paolo has played he has kept a clean sheet."
