The last time Josh Gowling faced Oldham Athletic he walked off the field revelling in a 5-0 win.
Gowling was playing on loan for Hereford at the start of the year and he’s got a similar spring in his step now.
The Gills’ central defender, pictured, played a key role in the FA Cup win over Southend last weekend and he’s hoping for another successful outcome against the Latics.
Recalling January’s game against Oldham, Gowling said: "A lot of people at the time didn’t think we would get anything. We started so quick and got a couple of goals ahead and thought ‘we’ve got it’.
"I don’t want to think about repeating that result, though, as it might jinx us. Just a win would be fine."
One player Gowling played alongside at Hereford was Febian Brandy and he was delighted to see the striker make the temporary switch from Old Trafford to Kent last week.
Gowling said: "He’s a brilliant player and deceiving as he’s quite small and people think he’s lightweight but he’s strong and gets in great areas."
Gowling is currently developing a solid partnership in central defence with West Ham loanee Matt Fry.
"He’s a young lad and a great player," said Gowling. "He’s been one of our best players recently."
Gowling is confident of another home success against Oldham.
"We’ve got players here that can hold their own against any team and we can hurt anyone," he said.
