Simon King is due to return to training on Monday as he nears the end of his injury nightmare.

King, pictured, has been missing for the Gills since breaking down in a pre-season match at Bromley in August 2009.

The 2008/09 player-of-the-year has been on a slow road back from an ankle injury ever since but Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is hoping to see him back in the near future.

"Simon could be playing in two weeks," said Hessenthaler.

"The fitness coach who has been working with Simon says he looks great. He looks lean and you could put him in training now and he wouldn’t look out of place."

King missed the whole of last season but may now be fit enough to be involved in the game at Oxford on November 20 or, ironically, he could return against former boss Mark Stimson at Barnet three days later.

Garry Richards, who has also been out with an ankle injury, could also be nearing the end of his rehabilitation.

"I’m really excited to have them back," said Hessenthaler.
