A "chronic" drink-driver caught behind the wheel of his car while banned from the road for seven years was jailed for a year on Friday.
Maidstone Crown Court heard it was kebab shop owner Ilyas Mohammed's sixth conviction for both driving with excess alcohol and driving while disqualified.
The father-of-five was last banned from the road in December 2005, but was caught drink-driving twice in July and October this year.
He was more than twice the legal limit on the first occasion, and more than three times the limit three months later.
Mohammed, 44, of Gladstone Road, Chatham, pleaded guilty at Medway magistrates to two offences of drink-driving, two of driving while disqualified and two of driving without insurance.
He also admitted being in breach of two suspended sentence orders at the time - for offences of criminal damage and affray - and the case was committed to the crown court.
Mohammed, who runs a Turkish kebab shop in Railway Street, Gillingham, was jailed for six months for the driving offences.
Judge Charles Macdonald QC ordered that this must be served consecutive to a six-month prison sentence which was originally suspended for two years in September.
"You are plainly a chronic, drunken menace to other road-users," said the judge. "You were not simply over the limit but drunk and in a state where you could have done very serious harm, possibly killing someone."
Judge Macdonald added that he accepted Mohammed had shown remorse but said he was not satisfied that he has any real insight into his drink problem.
The court had been urged to impose a non-custodial sentence as prison would possibly lead to the collapse of his business and subsequent loss of the family home.
However, Judge Macdonald said the family difficulties did not amount to exceptional circumstances.
Mohammed, who has already served 53 days on remand, was further disqualified from driving for six years.
