Gillingham fans are confident their side can overcome their second promotion rival in the space of four days with victory over Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.

JAMES STAPLES

(Greenwich)

"The win against Rotherham was a real accomplished performance and gave us an indication that we can match the best in the league.

"After defeats to Wycombe and Chesterfield, we needed to show we can beat those challenging for automatic promotion and this has to be the aim now.

"For Simon King to come through is a huge positive, not to mention the quality of his performance.

"Crewe away has always been a challenge and this weekend should prove no different. I hope Hess persists with the midfield diamond formation that worked so well. It saw a welcome return to form for Curtis Weston and long may that continue."

Prediction: Crewe 1 Gills 1

WARREN LIGHTFOOT

(Gillingham)

"After Tuesday’s performance, Gills should be confident going into Saturday, having outplayed one of League 2’s top sides. Having lost to Crewe just after the Dover FA Cup game, the Gills will be desperate for revenge.

"With the winning momentum behind us now and the away day hoo-doo rectified, the Gills should be able to exact the revenge we all want."

Prediction: Crewe 1 Gills 3

RICHARD PEPPER

(Manston)

"‘After a nothing game against Oxford, Gills bounced back with a deserved three points against promotion chasers Rotherham. The highlight was the return of Simon King, although sadly at the expense of player-of-the-season contender Matt Lawrence.

"Crewe away will be a different proposition and one of our toughest tests this season. We will need to be at our best all over the park, although on our day we can match anyone in League 2.

"If we play to our strengths, we could scrape a priceless win."

Prediction: Crewe 1 Gills 2

SAM LIVINGSTONE

(Pangbourne)

"It was a brilliant performance on Tuesday night and a deserved three points that was vital to keep in touch with the leaders. Akinfenwa was particularly outstanding and it was a nice surprise to see Simon King come on to play most of the match.

"I hope that we press Crewe to try and get three points rather than settling for one. If we can neutralise the threat of Clayton Donaldson, then we will have a great chance of winning as we are creating loads of chances and Cody is in great form."

Prediction: Crewe 1 Gills 4

PETER MORSE

(Crewe fan)

"This is an important game after a serious dip in form this month. A stunning January moved the Railwaymen from mid-table to the automatic promotion places and all seemed rosy at Gresty Road.

"But three defeats in the last four sent them spiralling back toward where they came from and it’s important that the slide is stopped immediately.

"I don’t think Crewe can look toward their 3-1 victory at Priestfield in November as a source of confidence as the scores were level when Callum Davies was sent-off. And they will be well aware of the Gills’ recent surge past them in the table.

"But the Alex will draw confidence from their home record. Four wins on the spin and just three league defeats there all season will give genuine reason for optimism.

"I expect this to be a tight game but there are always goals at both ends where the Alex are concerned.

"If the home fans can stay on side, Crewe will shade it."

Prediction: Crewe 2 Gills 1
