The winning run may have been brought to an end at Wycombe on Monday, but Gills fans are confident their side will get back on track at managerless Stockport on Saturday.
JAMES STAPLES
(Greenwich)
"Stockport find themselves in a real mess after losing at home to Morecambe last time out and have slipped to the fringes of the relegation places.
"It’s games like this we need to win if we are to have a chance of getting into the play-off positions and either remaining there until May or even pushing on into the automatic spots.
"The one thing that has struck me since the Port Vale game is the quality of our subs’ bench in the last few matches. Hess has players of real quality pushing for a starting place and it will be interesting to see if any of them get the nod this weekend.
"The confidence from five consecutive wins will not have evaporated following just one defeat and nor should it."
Prediction: Stockport 1 Gills 3
MALCOLM SMITH
(Grimsby)
"I wasn’t surprised by our defeat at Wycombe. They’ve become one of our bogey sides in recent memory, especially at Adams Park.
"Stockport are struggling with their last two league wins both coming against Barnet (which doesn’t say much!) and have to go back to October for their home fixture against the Bees.
"They do draw their fair share of games at Edgeley Park, however, so our attack will have to be on form if we are to break down their defence.
"With the same effort and desire shown over the Christmas period, you would hope that Gills can get all three points."
Prediction: Stockport 0 Gills 3
JULIAN HART
(Canterbury)
"The Wycombe defeat shouldn’t be too much of a hit to the confidence of the squad, it was a game where something had to give. It was Wycombe’s fifth straight win, so it shouldn’t downheart the mood.
"Stockport are a bit of a draw specialist at home – with seven fixtures ending level – hopefully we can overcome this."
Prediction: Stockport 1 Gills 3
DAVID ELLIOTT
(Broadstairs)
"After a disappointing performance at Wycombe, the team needs to show that their previous away wins were not down to the loan players at the time.
"The performance (at Wycombe) was unacceptable and the manager’s comment about tired legs an utter joke.
"This is not the non-league Hess, time to bring in a fitness coach. If we had players who were tired and suffering with the flu, why play them?
"Having sacked Paul Simpson, we can expect Stockport to have the usual post manager-sacking reaction and play out of their skins."
Prediction: Stockport 3 Gills 1
IAN DOOLEY
(Stockport fan)
"It was a shock to see Paul Simpson’s sacking and I’m surprised at the timing.
"It’s just another sign of how the club is in trouble and I don’t think there was any need for it. I think Hereford and Barnet will go down and if we finish third from bottom, I would be happy with that.
"My heart is saying a 2-0 win for Stockport but my head says a 2-0 defeat. Peter Ward will be in charge for the game – my all-time favourite player and an absolute star."
Prediction: Stockport 0 Gills 2
