Gillingham fans reflect on another day to forget at Priestfield

Gillingham fans got behind their side as they battled with 10-men before going down 3-1 at home to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, but our Gills Jury can't see any upturn in form around the corner.

ALLAN JONES

(Strood)

"There’s no passion out there. We’ve got a better team on the injury list than we have out on the pitch.

"People just don’t know what to do. I can’t see when this awful patch will end as it all looks so bleak.

"Hess was a living legend but I’m not so sure about him as manager. There was a rumour going round the ground yesterday that Alan Pardew – who I did see there – might come in and take over, but you could have Alex Ferguson out there and it wouldn’t make any difference.

"We need to get things sorted – next thing we know we might be going down."

DAVID WRAY

(Gillingham)

"We’re a club in crisis – it’s as simple as that. From top to bottom everything has gone wrong and I can’t see it picking up.

"I’ve been going to watch the Gills since 1971 and we’ve had our ups and downs, but nothing as bad as this.

"It’s dire, and we got another woeful display against Crewe.

"Hess has to be questioned. His tactics at times are awful but no one will come in to replace him as we’ve got no money.

"I lay the blame at the door of Paul Scally. He needs to start putting more money in to get us better players or we’ll go down. We’re in a relegation dogfight already."

LARRY WILLIAMSON

(Faversham)

"I was proud of the players. They showed a lot of commitment but things aren’t going for us, especially with all the injuries.

"I felt sorry for Callum Davies but he had to go – it’s a professional foul. The three loanees came in and played well but we need someone at the back with a bit of presence.

"It would have been interesting had it been 11 v 11 the whole game.

"The jury is still out on Hess but we’ve got to stick with him. We’ve got no money to change him so we just have to keep going.

"We go to Barnet next week and hopefully it will all change there.

"With Mark Stimson as their manager, it would be great to go and get one over on them.

"He started the awful losing away run and I think it’s written in the stars it’ll end there."

JACK JONES

(Crewe fan)

"Obviously it was a great result for us but I felt the sending-off ruined the game. It seemed a bit harsh to me but had it happened up the other end the Gills fans would have probably been calling for a red. It’s just one of those things.

"I still think we would have beaten them 11 v 11 but you never know – it would have certainly made the game more of a contest.

"It was a bit quiet at Priestfield but after Gillingham got the goal back in the second half the place lifted and they really got behind their team.

"The Gills fans deserve an upturn in form and I hope they get one."
