It was a fantastic win. Curtis Weston was back to his best and, of course, Cody McDonald was terrific.
However, Stockport were as bad a team as I’ve seen all season and we did what we had to do. McDonald’s pace caught the Stockport defence square and he fully deserved to score his hat-trick.
With the confidence returning and important players coming back from injury, Gillingham’s season is certainly looking a lot more promising.
Such was Gills’ dominance I don’t think Alan Julian had a save to make until a spell at the end.

While I was more than happy to see Gillingham win 5-1 away from home, I have to say that Stockport were the worst League side I’ve seen.
We scored five but we could have had 10. Cody McDonald (pictured) missed two one-on-ones and a number of other good chances went begging.
Stockport were so square at the back it was incredible, we managed to find a way through every time.
Alan Julian deserves a lot of credit because he didn’t have that much to do, but when he needed to towards the end, he pulled off some excellent saves.
Curtis Weston took his goal well and it was good to see McDonald get his hat-trick, but I won’t be getting too carried away because the opposition were that awful.
Having one up front worked on this occasion but it won’t work in every game.
We haven’t got much back-up if Akinfenwa or McDonald get injured so it could be good to get another forward in.

It was great to see Cody McDonald get his hat-trick, but Stockport were so poor we could have scored more.
We were running through them like a knife through butter.
If we’d had a bit more pace on the wings we would have really taken them to the cleaners.
What we need to do now is pick up wins against the teams above us, like we did against Port Vale. I still believe we should be going for automatic promotion as it’s getting so tight at the top.
With players coming back from injury we are improving all the time.

Despite the recent setback at Adams Park, it was great to bounce back with a thoroughly dominant away win against a team in a current confidence crisis.
This was another great win because it showed how quickly the team is improving as I believe that in times gone we would have lost this away game.
Another highlight for me was the brilliant Cody McDonald, who has got back to scoring goals again. He looks a brilliant player and it's a great shame that we are going to lose him in the summer.
However, as it is January it got me thinking who we could get in to replace him. As we have already missed the opportunity of getting Marvin Morgan (pictured) the one striker who stands out for me is Birchall of Dover - that could re-ignite the fires from the previous summer!

I’d like to give Gillingham all the credit but it’s the fifth time we’ve conceded five goals this season.
The only excuse I can give is that we signed four loan players and had a couple coming back from suspension so it was a team that hadn’t played together before.
The new manager only had one training session with them and it didn’t work for us.
Gillingham were quite professional, especially in defence with the centre-back pairing of Gowling (pictured) and Lawrence, while attacking wise they ran rings around our defence.
I don’t think they are the best side we’ve played this season but it’s hard to call when you concede so many goals.
If we can gel then we should be okay but we’ve got a big month coming up with games against Hereford and Lincoln. Ideally we’d want a week off now but we’ve got a re-arranged game with Rotherham on Tuesday and they’ve got lots of former County players.
