A third straight victory on the road left Gillingham sitting 13th in League 2. They gave the travelling support plenty to shout about after hitting four first half goals in the win over Macclesfield. Read what Gillingham fans had to say.

"Saturday’s game was a tale of two loan players, one on his return to the club and the other about to leave.

"We’ve seen lots of goals away from home this season but our defence has always let us down, however, from open play on Saturday that was a different story as Josh Gowling showed Hessy that he means business, staking his claim for a regular birth in the side.

"In the first half the travelling support were in dreamland, witnessing four goals in 33 minutes from the boys, the best of which was Gowling’s goal. Not so much for the finish (which was a little lucky) but for Whelpdale’s build-up and creative abilities.

"Whelpdale (pictured) is a loan player we are going to sorely miss, a fact that was all-the-more highlighted after his substitution, as the Gills failed to create very much and had to soak up greater pressure form Macclesfield as we lost the midfield battle in his absence.

"The main drawback was losing two goals from set-pieces. The first came from a fortuitous deflected free-kick after Maher was judged to have committed a foul (surely you have to connect with a player for this to be the case?) and the second (of more concern) was from a free header after a corner.

"Small gripe though, as this was a great afternoon. Three away wins on the trot and League 2 seems a much rosier place to be. Let’s just hope Peterborough are generous in their Christmas gifts this year!"

"Wow - another great performance from the Gills! Our attack looked dangerous every time we went forward and yet again Akinfenwa and Cody linked up really well - they really do look like an accomplished forward line-up.

"The loanees were excellent and it is a big blow to be losing them, although it was great just to have them. With Barcham, Oli, King (pictured), Weston and perhaps Payne playing on Wednesday I would think that we will soon be able to replace them with some good players as well.

"It was interesting to see Gowling score on his return to the club and I thought he had a very good match as the first goal conceded was extremely unlucky.

"We really are starting to climb the table - just four points off the play-offs - yet we have a tricky Christmas period which could well determine our season with some very tough games.

"If we get a lot of points in those games I think we will be in the play-offs, or within striking distance."

"It’s obviously very disappointing to lose at home to a side with as terrible an away record as Gillingham’s, especially after one defeat at home in six. But we gifted the Gills the points with a terrible first half where we let them score at will.

"A lot of Macc fans will be annoyed at the ref who let Akinfenwa in particular get away with whatever he wanted (including what looked like a blatant foul for the fourth) and really should have given us at least one penalty, but if you concede four goals in 25 minutes then you are going to lose the game.

"We had our chances but didn’t take enough of them. I can see why you have lost 5-4 and 7-4 this season. Good going forward, but we could easily have scored a lot more had we been sharper up front."
