The odds are we won’t have Jo Kuffour and Frank Nouble available this weekend for the FA Cup but I think we’ve got a stronger squad available.
It’s a blow not to have the two loan players but we’ve got to go with who is available.
I took charge of the friendly against West Ham on Tuesday afternoon and it was good to see Lewis Montrose, Jack Payne, Dennis Oli and Simon King all feature.
Stefan Payne scored which was another plus so with those players coming back into the squad against Bournemouth, then, for me, it’s not a weakened squad, it’s a stronger one.
The FA Cup is the biggest cup competitition in the world. Luckily enough I’ve had a few decent runs in the cup and have been to the quarter-finals a few times but never made it to the final like Matt Lawrence and Curtis Weston.
It’s a big day for the minnows on Saturday and we’ll all be watching the highlights in the evening to see the upsets.
Hopefully, we can go to Bournemouth and create our own little upset. I didn’t watch the highlights last year after Dover beat us but then again, I doubt the likes of Bradford or Sheffield Wednesday were rushing to the television when we beat them during their Premier League days.
We were gutted last year. It was fate that we got Dover and lost to them due to all the reasons that everyone knows.
We’ve got no pressure on us this time around.
We’re full of confidence and have shown away from home that we can get it right and score goals.
We might end up looking back on last weekend and saying what a fantastic result it was for us.
To score four goals at home just to win the game isn’t right but we’ve got to take the positives into the FA Cup.
Jo Kuffour’s second goal was excellent. His awareness to look behind him and take that goal on shows you he is a natural finisher. He’s instinctive and has great movement.
It was only the second time that Jo and Keds have started together yet they had a great understanding.
