Dennis Oli remains a front runner for the vacancy in attack for Gillingham but it won’t stop manager Andy Hessenthaler’s hunt for new blood.

The forward is back from a virus and fighting to win a place alongside Danny Kedwell.

Oli (pictured) came on as a 60th-minute substitute in Saturday's 3-0 win over Plymouth.

Gills boss Hessenthaler is desperate to find a new striker, as cover for the injured Adam Birchall, but hasn’t discounted Oli in his plans.

Hessenthaler said: "Dennis has done well. I had a good chat with him on Friday and I have never hidden the secret that we need another striker.

"Dennis had a rough season last year, playing about three games, he had a virus this year but he is looking sharp in training and getting back to his best.

"He wants to be in the team and he could force my hand but I said to him I still want to bring in another striker. We need competition for places. We have it everywhere else but up top is where we are missing at the moment."
