Mark McCammon has welcomed the additional competition following the arrival of Adebayo Akinfenwa.
Gillingham’s latest signing could push McCammon, pictured, down the pecking order but the 31-year-old was in bullish mood.
McCammon said: "He’s got bags of experience and bags of strength and pace as well so he’s a great addition to the squad.
"Hopefully we can use him to benefit Gillingham.
"Football is all about competition and you need that in a team if you want to be pushing for promotion. You can’t have players in the comfort zone."
McCammon is coming back from a summer operation on an ankle injury and is hoping to impress boss Andy Hessenthaler.
Last week, he got his first run-out since playing for Bradford on loan in March. It was his first Gillingham appearance for almost six months.
Should Andy Hessenthaler play Akinfenwa and McCammon in the same side, or is there room for just one of them? Have your say in our comments section below.
