Gillingham have taken Ebbsfleet United goalkeeper Lance Cronin on trial.

The 24-year-old (pictured) is vying to get a league contract at the Gills and challenge current number one Alan Julian for the keeper jersey.

Gillingham are in the market for a keeper following the decision of Simon Royce to reject a new contract and join Brentford.

Cronin is expected to feature in both of Gillingham’s games over the next few days, when they travel to Braintree on Friday and Bromley on Saturday.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler said: “We like him and he’s decent. He’s stood out (in training) and I thought he did well.”

Cronin progressed through the youth ranks at Crystal Palace and has previously had brief spells at league clubs Wycombe, Oldham and Shrewsbury.

He has been at Ebbsfleet since 2006 and has played several times for the England C side.

Do you think Lance Cronin is ready to make the step up to the Football League?
