A permanent deal for Dagenham striker Gavin Tomlin will be high on Andy Hessenthaler’s post-season agenda.

The Gillingham manager has been delighted by the impact the 29-year-old has made at Priestfield since joining on loan in mid-January.

Tomlin (pictured) has netted six goals in 10 appearances for the Gills but has been halted by injury since early March. He recovered from a hamstring injury but within minutes of his return to first-team action he twisted an ankle following a heavy challenge.

He is now rated as 50-50 to play again this season but Hessenthaler is hoping to see a lot more of the forward.

Hessenthaler said: "We would like him to be here for next season but obviously he is not our player. He is on loan and at the end of the season he goes back to Dagenham.

"If there is a deal that could be done to bring him here on a permanent basis then maybe that’s something we could try and do."

Hessenthaler has yet to begin talks over Tomlin’s future with Dagenham as he concentrates on keeping the Gills’ promotion hopes alive.
