Manager Andy Hessenthaler has asked fans not to panic despite the fact that the re-signing of Joe Martin is Gillingham's only business of the close season so far.

"Things are going well but there is nothing concrete," said the Gills boss (pictured).

"People are probably getting frustrated as we haven’t signed anybody apart from Joe but we have to pick and choose carefully.

"There is no point rushing into signings and then, come the middle of the season, they don’t work out. We need to make sure we get the right ones in.

"We are talking to a number of players and if you go across all of the teams in all divisions there is not much movement at the moment.

"Over the next couple of weeks we will have a bit more information for the fans and it will be good news. At the moment it is all on-going conversations."

Hessenthaler is in the market for a handful of players.

He said: "Our main aim is for a goalkeeper, two wide players perhaps and a couple of centre forwards. After that it might be our business over. They are our main focus at the moment."
