Curtis Weston challenged by Morecambe on Saturday Picture: Barry Goodwin

Andy Hessenthaler believes that Curtis Weston’s injury was the reason the midfielder turned in an indifferent display in the 1-1 draw against Morecambe at Priestfield on Saturday.
The Gillingham manager substituted Weston in the second half of the League 2 encounter after the player had failed to make much of an impact in the middle against Morecambe.
Weston suffered a knock in the game the previous week against Lincoln but declared himself fit to play on Saturday.
Hessenthaler said: "He said he was fit but looking at him, I think he was maybe off it a bit.
"He was carrying an injury but the kid wants to play. He is desperate to keep playing.
"Looking at him, with Morecambe dropping off as deep as they did, we need to exploit them a bit in midfield areas but perhaps we didn’t do that until later on in the game."
