Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler admits he could be forced to tinker with his squad in a bid to liven things up.

The Gills are on a 12-game unbeaten run but Hessenthaler has been frustrated at the way the team have competed in the first 45 minutes during their last two outings.

"We might freshen it up but we will wait and see," said Hessenthaler (pictured). "If we were to do that we wouldn’t make too many changes.

"We are still on a decent run. We don’t want to disrupt things too much at this stage. It might just need freshening up to kick us on again."

The Gills face Cheltenham on Sunday, as their hosts wanted to avoid a clash with England’s European Championship qualifier against Wales.

Cheltenham have little to play for in League 2, with relegation and promotion battles passing them by but Hessenthaler knows they need to be wary against a side who bagged a surprise 3-2 win at Bury last weekend.

The Gills boss said: "Players who may be out of contract come the end of the season are going to be playing for their futures. They are not just going to give up. It will be a difficult game for us. We know we have to improve on our first half performance (at Burton)."

Gillingham could drop out of the play-off positions by the time their game comes around but that won’t concern Hessenthaler.

He said: "If we are out of the play-off positions we don’t need to let that worry us. Everyone still has to play each other.

"We just have to worry about ourselves and make sure we go unbeaten until the end of the season. The way we are going, there is a possibility that could happen."

Hessenthaler could have Danny Spiller (finger) and Danny Jackman (ankle) back from injury, while Simon King (hamstring) is close to a return.

Chris Palmer (ankle) is also back in training and could return before the end of the season.
