Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler was delighted to see the return of Andy Barcham to his squad on Saturday.

The 24-year-old came off the bench against Bury with around half an hour left after recovering from his latest injury setback.

Barcham had missed the last six games after a reoccurrence of an ankle injury that had already kept him out for three months of the season.

It had restricted last season’s player-of-the-year to just 12 appearances this season, but he was back to make number 13 at Priestfield on Saturday.

"He excites people doesn’t he," said Hessenthaler. "He could have scored as soon as he had his first touch.

"It’s a good sight to see him back on the pitch. He is going to be pivotal to us with the run-in we’ve got."
