Andy Hessenthaler is ready for his side’s promotion credentials to be put to the test ahead of a tough run of fixtures.

The Gillingham manager (pictured) prepares his side for the visit of third-placed Rotherham on Tuesday and this is followed with games against three more sides inside the top eight of League 2.

Following Saturday's goalless draw at home to Oxford, Gillingham face a trip to Crewe (eighth) at the weekend, followed by a home game with Bury (sixth) and a visit to fourth-placed Shrewsbury. It’s a run of fixtures that Hessenthaler is relishing.

He said: "The last few weeks have been pretty tough and every game is a different challenge. We’re going to be tested but we are looking forward to it.

"We’ll know after these next four games where we are going to be.

"I can’t complain too much because in our last 13 games we’ve only lost twice. Eight wins and three draws - that’s a good return."

Rotherham arrive at Priestfield buoyed by Saturday’s win over Crewe and with the division’s top scorer in their ranks in Adam Le Fondre.

Gillingham will be looking to return to winning ways after being held to successive draws by Stevenage and Oxford.
