Gillingham have risen from League 2 no-hopers to promotion contenders in the space of just six weeks but manager Andy Hessenthaler isn't getting carried away.

The Gills were above the relegation zone only on goal difference after a 3-1 home defeat to Crewe in mid-November, but since then they have won four on the bounce and moved to within three points of the play-off positions.

Hessenthaler (pictured) said: "At the moment we’re enjoying what we’re doing, we’ve turned the corner a bit and we will see where it takes us.

"We’ve knuckled down and challenged every game that has been put in front of us. That’s what we have to do and Stevenage is the next game."

Mid-table Stevenage arrive at Priestfield tomorrow on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off.

Gillingham have ditched their bullish pre-season promotion talk and with the pressure off, the results have turned.

Hessenthaler added: "We’ve had four wins and it’s great but we don’t get carried away. We didn’t get carried away when we were losing. It was tough then but at the moment we’re on a bit of a run."
