Andy Hessenthaler will be keeping his eye out for new recruits when the transfer window opens in January.
Top of the Gillingham manager’s list could be Joe Martin, pictured against Port Vale on Tuesday, who is currently playing for the club on non-contract terms.
"When the window opens up there is a chance we could sign him on a permanent basis," said Hessenthaler, who handed Martin his first Gills start against Port Vale on Tuesday.
"That’s something we’ll look at. We need to be careful we don’t lose someone like that because he is a good player."
Martin has so far played on the left of midfield rather than his preferred defensive position and Hessenthaler said: "Left side of midfield is not his position, but he gives us the balance."
With the team’s form, Hessenthaler does admit it may take some persuading for chairman Paul Scally to part with any more of the club’s money.
Hessenthaler said: "The chairman will be saying ‘why do we need to strengthen when we’ve won four in a row?’
"If there is someone I really like, then I will have to have a conversation with him and maybe we could do something."
