Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler hopes to be able to offer Danny Spiller an extended stay.
The midfielder (pictured) has been a regular starter under Hessenthaler this season and he’s made 19 appearances since joining the Gills in the summer.
His current contract runs out at the end of this month and Hessenthaler was in negotiations with chairman Paul Scally during the week about extending the deal.
The Gills boss said: "He has played a lot of games and did well at the weekend (against Macclesfield). We want him to stay and he’s been part of it and hopefully he’ll be part of it until the end of the season."
Spiller has been an important figure for the Gills this season after ending a two year exile by returning to Priestfield, following spells at Millwall, Dagenham and Wycombe.
In the summer he had an offer to play in the United States with Chicago Fire but couldn’t join until January and joined the Gills on a short-term deal.
