Gillingham set an unwanted record on Saturday despite putting in one of their best away performances in 18 months.

The goalless draw at Port Vale means the Gills have now stretched their run without a league win away from home to 29 games - a club record.

That beats the previous record set in the early 1990s and takes the total current run, in league and cup, to 33 matches.

Boss Andy Hessenthaler was understandably reluctant to focus on that record after seeing his side come so close to beating the League 2 leaders at Vale Park.

"We are not worried about that now and I said to the players to forget about it," he said.

"This win will come if they keep working their socks off and putting in performances like that."

The last time Gillingham won away was at Rochdale on May 2, 2009.

Crewe hold the worst record overall in the Football League, as they went 56 away matches without a win in the mid-1950s.

Can Gillingham break their away run with a victory on the road before Christmas? Have your say below.
