Gillingham welcome Southend to Priestfield on Tuesday night for their second home League 2 fixture in four days.

The Gills will be aiming to build some momentum following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Burton but boss Andy Hessenthaler (pictured) may have to make changes in midfield.

Curtis Weston started his first match since the opening day after recovering from injury, Danny Spiller is nursing an Achilles injury and Hessenthaler said Mark Bentley had been "out on his feet" after 90 minutes on Saturday.

The Gills boss said: "We’ll have some tired legs and we’ll have to look at it on Monday and go from there."

John Nutter (groin) missed out at the weekend, while Dennis Oli (hamstring) was also not involved.

Hessenthaler said: "John Nutter might come back but that could be risky as he has only just done that. I think he will be fit for Accrington (on Saturday).

"We’ll have to wrap Curtis up. He struggled a bit through fatigue and with Benno, who is getting on in years, out on his feet near the end we may well be a change on Tuesday."

Belgian midfielder Stanley Aborah - left out at the weekend - could be recalled, while Kevin Maher would relish the chance to face the side he previously captained.

Danny Jackman will start training again this week after a knee injury, while Andy Barcham will not be ready until the visit of Stockport on October 9.
