Andy Hessenthaler treated his team to a night out on Saturday as part of their four-day training camp in France.

The Gillingham manager is keen to install a team spirit and camaraderie to the squad and felt a bonding session on the town was in order.

Speaking after their match with Calais, Hessenthaler said: "The trip (to France) has been very good and we’re going to finish it off by going out.

"They’ll have a bite to eat and we’ll have a few beers. This is what it’s all about. It’s about getting together and this is a different environment from the training ground.

"It’s always nice to go somewhere else. The chairman has put the trip on and the boys have appreciated it.

"I think we got a lot out of it and I’m sure I’ll get to know them a little more perhaps when they’ve had a few shandies."
