Gillingham have rejected at least two bids for striker Simeon Jackson, manager Andy Hessenthaler revealed this week.

Jackson’s future has been the subject of much speculation since the Gills were relegated to League 2 last month.

But so far the offers do not come close to matching Gillingham’s valuation for a player who still has one year left on his current deal.

"I think there have been a couple of cheeky ones," said Hessenthaler.

"I don’t really know who, the chairman is dealing with that. I want him to stay and I’ve told Simeon and his agent that but everyone has their price.

"We don’t want to lose him on the cheap. But it’s out of my hands really. If the right offer comes along for Simeon and it’s right for both parties, then we’ll probably lose him."

Hessenthaler reiterated that he would rather keep Jackson (pictured) and run the risk of losing him for nothing next summer.

Hessenthaler added: "I want him to stay as I believe he will score the goals that hopefully will push us back to League 1.

"If he scores the goals and does what Jermaine Beckford has done (for Leeds) then so be it – we’d get something out of it as he would have scored the goals to get us promoted."

Jackson has scored 42 goals for the Gills in 115 games.
