New Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler is not worried about losing his status as a Priestfield legend if things turn sour in his second spell at the club.

"Of course it crossed my mind," he said. "People say ‘you’ve got that status of being a legend here, do you want to go back? If things don’t work out, you might walk away not a legend’.

"I’m not worried about that. I set my mark here as a player and a manager in the Championship.

"I’m going to put all my energy into being a manager and nothing else."

He continued: "My strengths are man management and dealing with players on a daily basis.

"Mark (Robson) is good at that and also good on the training ground.

"We’re two fit lads and that will help us to get out there, put sessions on and get players to buy into the way we want to play."
