Barry Fuller broke his nose just 30 seconds into Gillingham’s win over Leeds after clattering into fellow defender Darren Dennehy.

The Gills captain, pictured, only recently returned to the side after breaking his arm and had been playing with a light-weight cast.

Boss Mark Stimson must now wait anxiously to see how long the 25-year-old right-back will be sidelined for.

"It’s going to be down to the swelling," said Stimson, whose squad has been plagued by injuries since pre-season.

"He just wants to be out there. He will probably have his arm and face strapped up and will be like some sort of superhero."

Asked if Fuller could wear a face protector, the Gills boss was quick to dismiss the suggestion.

"An old friend of mine Sodje, he used to wear a mask, but I don’t think Barry will entertain that," said Stimson.

"He’s not into all that, he would rather play and head it and if it breaks again, it breaks."
